I was surprised that being a trauma survivor would come up at the dentist's office, but today it did. I had the roots of one of my front teeth die. It got brittle and broke off, so I had a nice dental implant done. I say nice with zero sarcasm.
My dentist said it was interesting to him how that tooth's roots died like that, so he asked me if I'd had any blunt force trauma to that spot. I did. As many here know, I'm a childhood combat and torture survivor from growing up in a war zone overseas. Yes, I got hit in that spot a lot when I was 15.
He said that the effects of a trauma to a tooth like that can happen way later in life. Has anybody else experienced this, too?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Evergreen, I've got the most gentle dentist ever. He's not just my dentist, he's my friend. He's extremely corny and we have these totally corny conversations during my visits, but I love that about him. He takes his time, he explains and lets me choose procedures, it's pretty amazing. He's the first dentist who, so far, has never hurt me once, and he's done major procedures on me. He's a real sweetheart of a guy.
Blue, thanks for letting me know you've had two front teeth die due to trauma, too. That's really validating for me. The score is two front teeth for me as well: I've had this upper one die that now has an implant, and a lower small tooth that has a root canal. I've got a molar going now back farther in my mouth; my dentist just now noticed it's getting wobbly.
Glad surgery saved that 2nd tooth for you!
