Last week at a restaurant I happened to run into one of my dad's old cronies. Dear old dad used his fists instead of communicating, so he's not allowed into my life any more, for five blissful drama-free years now. I realize when one of his old buddies runs into me how emotionally and spiritually dark he and his pals are, and how much brighter my life is without that stuff.
Other people have mentioned how, after cutting ties with toxic family members, those family members still keep trying to contact them. True for me, too, so I'm glad I've maintained my boundaries.
I got to thinking about it, and it amused me to realize it's like in the early Star Wars movies. Luke Skywalker had to deal with finding out Darth Vader was his dad. Darth Vader then kept trying to turn Luke to the "dark side of the Force."

Anybody else have an encounter lately with their Darth Vader, too?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I'm metaphorically now under a table sucking my thumb and rocking myself. *sigh*
Of course, then I think of the more recent Star Wars movies and get a chuckle out of this, b/c I am a Star *Trek* fan....

You couldn't pay me enough to go to the Dark Side.
Yeah, the Sith Sister thing---my dad's youngest sister was one (she's a murderer, for crying out loud, over $)---it's just creepy.
I struggle with this a lot and I feel a ton of guilt over it... My dad either ignored me completely and if I talked he would say 'Listen" in other words shut up or we wanted to give me something to cry for
I feel very guilty about talking about it though... As though it's a huge betrayal... I think I bury my head... I still want to believe that he loved me even though I know somewhere inside that he didn't... That's the first time I've 'said/written' that to another
Sorry muji ...I know I'm off topic... I think I just needed to write that
I never told anybody that so I'm glad I just did now : )
Muji, Thank You for Sharing! ~Hugs~
I'm so sorry for the struggle and guilt you feel over your memories of your relationship with your Dad. I can relate to the feeling of talking or writing about it to someone else for the very first time. It's not off topic. I'm glad you felt safe enough to say what you feel here. 52 is right, it can hurt when we wanted a Dad's positive attention so badly but it wasn't really available.
