Eldest son (36) got out of the hospital yesterday. He is destitute. Unemployed and possibly unemployable. He stayed here last night. His violent body language was gone, for now, and we felt safe enough for the immediate, but. . . Been riding this cycle for more than 20 years now. "For now" has yet to fail to grow into seriously nasty yaddah blahs, all the way to violent elder abuse and a sense of entitlement bigger than the State of Texas. Ever notice that the more dysfunctional a person's own life is, the quicker they are to declare themselves experts, fit to run other people's lives? I reckon they have plenty of time to read it on the internet.
That definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results is haunting me. Again. 20 years of this redundancy makes for allot of ugly echoes. Wishing, yet again, I had a clear distinction between "enabling" and "being supportive." Surely it is somewhere in my "Parenting Middle-aged Children" books.
Support needed. FEF. (Feeling Extremely Fragile) Anxiety and fear of what this day might hold is eating me alive.

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...

Now us the time for self arfie
I am making believe he is 36 years old and just got out of the psych hospital. At this moment, it seems likely that he knows the local availabilities better than I do. Not my choice whether or not a 36 year old man uses me. He has a loud and long history of declaring those options as beneath him. Not mine to sort, beyond my own rights to personal safety and healthy boundaries.
Hubs was the star of this morning's family drama. Middle management style. . . Bad employee reviews for all. I ran away until he left. What a relief that the driveway was empty when I got back. Girl, howdy, I am in a chump dumping mood. Life's a bitch, then ya marrys a bastard and raises more bastards and bitches?
Hope healing happens here.
Sorry, my precious support dog (my current avi). I didn't mean to insult you with the female dog metaphor.
"Not my choice whether a 36 year old man uses the *available resources*."
Absolutely my choice whether or not he uses *me*.
Been puzzling the distinction between enabling and being supportive for most of my adult life and hindsight is still not so 20-20 on this one. Today I wonder if the difference is the spirit in which the help is received. I don't even get to control that in my infant granddaughter, much less adults.
Who knows? My great certainty of the day is that I, strictly personal, am a few cans shy of a 6-pack today.
Thanks for the support. I get by with a little help from my friends.
My mom went from one to the other, and the Entitlement to Handout? Yeah, not sure when that happened, but... It's a slippery slope. Five years ago, it would've been fine. Now it's not, and it's not just me. Others see this in her, too. Soooo....
Yeah.
We're here. Soft support continues.
