i have scars all up and down my arms.
i learned that in order to stop,i had to find find healthy coping skills to deal with my intense emotions (especially anger) and dissociation.
it became quite addictive, and drinking only made it worse,as it increased my impulsivity,so i stopped that too.
it is now very seldom that i get the urge to self harm, but if i do,i use every grounding tool i can think of......the best one for me is holding ice in a cloth, and just concentrating on the sensation.
i hope you can find some coping skills of your own, because as i said,it can become very addictive.
You just have to remind yourself and say " it actually isnt going to help or change anything to make this better long term, and i will regrete this in the morning" telling myself it wont change anything realisticly has helped me massively. I hope ur able to get thr idea off ur mind.
