I am feeling dog-dumping mean today. Eldest son (34) and his gf each dumped a dog on me. Starting to feel like permanent dumpage. No request, no coordination. There couldn't have been less communication if they had been random strangers dumping their unloved pets at the curb-side. Nowhere near the first time for my son. I have been eldest son's personal pet dump -which he has shared freely with his friends- since his adolescence. About two decades now... My precious support dog is being reduced to a member of a yapping yard pack. One dog is support. Three dogs are a force of nature I do not feel prepared to manage.

Again, my Courage to Share reader had balancing thoughts to contribute.
"In the past, many of us learned to make choices strictly on the basis of our feelings, as if feelings were facts. If we were frightened about taking a certain action, for example, then it was best avoided. There was no middle ground and no room for more than one feeling at a time.
"Part of recovery involves learning that feelings aren't facts. I am a complex, fascinating human being with a wide range of emotions, experiences, and thoughts. There is more to my identity than one feeling or another, one problem or another. I am a wealth of contradictions. I can value all of my feelings without allowing them to dictate my actions.
"Today I can feel anger toward someone and still love them. I can feel afraid of new experiences, yet move forward through them. I can survive being hurt without giving up on love. And I can experience sadness and still be confident that I will be happy again.
"Life, for all its agonies . . . is exciting and beautiful, amusing and artful and endearing . . . and whatever is to come after it - - we shall not have this life again." ~Rose Macaulay
Just sharing. The longer I practice it, the more convinced I seem to be that sharing really does benefit the recovery process here. Seems to help me sort the trash from the treasures while polishing the treasures I choose to keep. Thanks for letting me share.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

Wow... this has really struck a cord with me today.
I totally understand being frustrated with the extra dogs. Is there a rescue who can take the extras? I hate that people think of animals as disposible, but it is not your responsibility.
