haven’t posted in a while, so here are some updates and concerns....
1. The uncle who sexually abused me has been put in a nursing home after my aunt’s death. I believe he may have become violent with his brother because he is very triggered by deaths in the family, and probably knew he would be sent away after she died.
2. My daughter has come out as a lesbian, and is very passionately involved in a local teen group. She seems to be doing well socially and academically, but I’m adjusting to style changes, like her new shorter haircut, which is super cute.
3. I’ve stopped dancing (because of my leg and also to avoid seeing people from my old dance studio) and I’m questioning my involvement in the Catholic Church because the lymphedema in my left leg has made me cut back on many activities, as well as other reasons (the sexual abuse scandal, changes in who our priest is, and not really feeling totally accepted at church.) still biking, but I feel liberated for leaving groups that just haven’t felt “right” for a while.
4. Upset that my husband unexpectedly decided to get a vasectomy two months ago, which I did not fight against, but I’ve accepted it. Medically, everything healed nicely, and just awaiting results of sperm test. But, I will have to get used to him not wearing condoms anymore.
5. Coping with insomnia and anxiety with Zzquil and Clonopin, which seems to be working. I started using Zzquil to stop myself from getting back into my sleeping pill addiction and it seems to work. Also, getting a massage at a spa about every month because my back had tensed up so badly. It’s cheaper than therapy, lol!
6. Getting back into writing and have almost completed a children’s nonsense poetry book. I was also an extra in a local production this summer and was paid for the day I was on set!
7. Teens are headed back to school soon!
Really have calmed down mostly and appreciate this group so much!

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?
