Confronted president re PTSD stigma
I just got done with my day of interviews on the hour from 7:30am until 8:30pm (we had a business dinner). You posted when I left yesterday that I was going to do ok with this interview, and I didn't believe you. But I kind of did. It's a far from perfect situation. There a close colleague I'd have, a professor, who's bonkers. The immediate boss is super cool, but the boss above him is a weasel.
The money's not as good as I thought it would be.
But there's a lot of it that is good, and most of all, I was able to do the interviewing with my PTSD. The bosses spoke to me about expecting community service, and I took a chance and told the university's president in our interview together that DS PTSD is my community and this is where I'd do my community service. I directly told him there had been stigma about that at my last job, so if he had any problems with it to say so now.
When I did that it turned in my favor because this university is right by a big army base, and so they took my being open about my own war child missionary kid combat PTSD and being here on DS PTSD about it as a positive, a way of supporting the troops. Go figure.
So I don't know if I got this job. They're interviewing two more people in the next two weeks, though they did point out to me that I was invited to be their first on campus interview guest. That was nice of them. And I don't even know if I should accept it if offered, but I did kind of do fine with it like you said because I had the insight not to go it alone and, for the first time ever to ask for support for my interview nerves.
Thank you so much! However the outcome as to getting the job or not, I am not an emotional triggered wreck after an intense on campus interview day like I've been in the past. I actually have some pride in how I was myself for the first time in an interview situation like this, and--most importantly--I have some peace. I'm really happy to be coming home, and I have some nutty coworkers there, too, but I have DS PTSD wherever I go.
Thanks for suggesting I could dare to think I might do well in this interview, my friends.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

i had no doubt in my mind that you would do well :)
now how can you reward yourself?
((((( hugs )))))
Hope it all works out for the best.
Heartfelt hugs, Patti
BIG HUGE HUGS!
And, thanks for all you do here to help others! I really appreciate the time you've taken to help me navigate through a difficult time! ((Hugs))
Wow, after thinking about it for a day, I can't believe I had the nerve to tell the university president at a job interview that I was a CL at DS PTSD and if he didn't like it, then too bad. Whew! That isn't like me from my past. The four F's of PTSD symptoms are fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.

When facing the Big Man in an interview, in the past I would have frozen up or fawned.
I didn't this time! I was myself. OMG, this support group is making be get better.
Thanks, y'all. Maybe I don't get this job because I did that, because the Big Man couldn't take it. Ok.
But maybe if I do get it, I start out from a place of more respect this time. For the very first time,
start out of the closet just being me, no shame, more self esteem, more self respect to get respect.
Is this how we get better? It sure feels good.
