I hate christmas! Okay, not really, but all the things that come with it. Especially all the family bullshit. I mean, seriously? Pretty much my entire maternal family despises each other, where the hell do they see the necessity to meet in the first place? All everyone will be doing is bitching at each other while pretending to be all saccharine-polite anyway (bunch of duplicitous arseholes that they are).
Anyway. My mother wants to visit my grandparents with me and I've told her for weeks, that if there's not way I can just stay at home, I will go one day later and leave one day early. Of course she ignored me and presented me with a fait accompli today. Of course she booked the tickets already, and dcided that I will stay as long as she does, which means I'll have to go to the big family thing (where about 200 people are bitching, compared to just four) and stay for three nights instead of one. She refuses to cancel my ticket and demands that I pay both the unused tickets and the ones I will be using if I take a different train, which would be veeery expensive (though I think I might do that anyway, not sure yet).
Thing is, my mother's side of the family is entirely catholic and I'm an atheist. I don't have anything against religion at all, I think it can be a very good thing, however, I do have a problem when a bunch of people either avoid me like the plague or outright insult me (in their fake-polite way) simply because I don't share their beliefs!
My grandmother is the worst with this, we can't spend more than five minutes in the same room without her starting on how evil I am. I admit, I'm not entirely innocent here, I go into defense-mode pretty much the moment I see her, but still. I don't need to listen four days straight to someone telling me what a horrible person I am!
What does this woman think I do? Steal helpless little kids' candy and sacrifice kittens to satan? I don't even believe in the devil, not believing in god doesn't make me a bloody satanist! Maybe I should take some red paint with me and draw pentagrams all over the flat, just to see the look on her face...
Anyway, another thing that pisses me off is the reason my mother won't spend a day there without me. She doesn't get along with my grandmother either, but she couldn't stand up to her if her life depended on it, so she's using me as a buffer. My grandmother fights with me and she gets to stay out of sight aside from taking my grandmother's side when she wants my mother to.
I. Hate. All of this. Well, I still have two days until we go and I'll sonstantly verbally attacked for four entire days. Yay. Merry fucking christmas to me!
Sorry for rambling and thanks for letting me vent a bit.

No thanks!
By the time we left (and it was after three hours at most), oh, the relief!
I cannot imagine four days with such. You have my support. And, for what it's worth, soft purring hugs. What a ridiculous thing the myth of "Christmas family time" can be. Rant on, Neo, we're cheering for you:-)
Smiles,
Leo
They seem to have all the push buttons too. Hang in there, few more days and it will be over . Hugs
