With PTSD, there are various responses to fear: Freeze, Flight or Fight... some people add Fawn (to accommodate), as well.
The response is your body's way of trying to take care of itself, the fact that you know that you are being triggered, can be seen as healing... knowing you are being triggered, then noticing your response... shows awareness. Hopefully you can soothe that part of yourself, letting it know, that the fear is old... what ever is triggering you now, is quite possibly not as threatening as the original trauma. Knowing that the magnitude of your fear & response comes from the past, will help in trying to scale down the present day responses... please be kind & gentle with yourself. :)
In the Freeze response, the body gets OVERLOADED with the fight and flight hormones so the body gets confused and freezes. I hate that response way more than fight or flight. It's so...disempowering.
It's no different than a deer in the headlights. Hang in there. If there is anyway to alleviate the stress or triggers, it helps.
