A calendar day is any day you would mark on the calendar. Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, holidays, pimple popping days...
Calendar days scare me. When I mount an expedition, I plan like a mad woman. Plan A thru Z with contingency plans for the contingency plans. Give me a calendar day to plan and I turn in to a bee hive full of melted wax... 100,000 buzzes in search of a responsible party to swarm.
Last Friday, as the gall stones were moving into my beloved's bile duct, I was buying a turkey for my first ever presentation of Thanksgiving dinner. Yesterday -Thanksgiving- morning, my grandson woke early and cranky. I did not hear him. His parents got him. No big. Eldest son did reasonably well at not adding his manly tantrum roars to the noise level at the disturbance of his fragile sleep. At around 6:30 a.m., daughter-in-law and I decided to cook up that turkey dinner anyway, despite the hospital vagueries looming in the day. "If nothing else," we agreed, "cooking is a peaceful, meditative pass time."
I brought my beloved home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. No, he is not better. He may be at the leading edge of a long haul. He just likes the nursing better here. The thanksgiving feast is still on the stove and counter. Looks like I am going to have a happy compost pile this week. Youngest son and his family have a funeral in Houston between here and their home in San Antonio. Not a practical scenario for taking leftovers.
This be fairly typical of what happens when I try to plan a calendar day event. Disasters come seeping out of every crack in the system... This morning I wonder if God is trying to tell me to stick to planning expeditions????
Just a manic broadcast...

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

There may be a long haul ahead for you and your beloved, but thank God is going to be around to go through it, and hopefully come out the other end.
How do you feel about him coming home to be nursed by you instead of by the professionals in the hospital?
