Problems with attachment and isolation are common with PTSD. The more severe the abuse the more extreme the issues with attachment, isolation, low self-esteem. I'm so glad you started therapy. Therapy and support groups (I highly recommend good support groups as a way to help break out of isolation and meet people with similar backgrounds) have saved my life.
My mother and father started abusing me when I was an infant. The abuse continued in one form or another until I left home at 18. I started in therapy when I was 25 -- that was a long time ago.
I still struggle with trust, bonding with others, isolating, low self-esteem. All I can say is I'm light years ahead of where I was. So, yes, even the deepest wounds can heal. Feel free to read my profile for more information.
Wishing you the very best, Dancer.

Many of us are still on the "healing journey" and have not been subjected to even 1/2 of what you've been subjected to. So, give yourself time... I've been diagnosed with both PTSD and "adjustment disorder" at different times; the second being during a time when I lived abroad and NEVER settled in right. I was in a constant state of anxiety...
Oh, man. You were really given a bad serve. I am so sorry to hear it.
I will have affected you. I don't think the name for the effects on you matters that much for the most part unless you want to research it or find a therapist who is skilled in your issues.
I think the main thing is:
1.To think of what your needs are, sensibly and carefully.
2. Then to think about how to meet these needs. This may entail planning a process and getting help and information regarding each specific goal that you clearly identify.
Bit by bit, if you approach this in an organised fashion, you will make great improvements.
All the best.
Attachment disorder was not mentioned in my eval. But I do find it hard to make or keep friends or know what to say. I don't relate to others. Though I have some sort of issue, not sure what its called, where if anyone is nice to me I instantly fall in love with them...as in I have major transference issue going on with my therapist and one of my doctors.
I've been hurt too many times, and deceived too many times.
I just accept it, and I'm attached to my grown children. I can't trust anyone else.
Counseling didn't help. I felt very threatened by my counselor because she spoke to me like a friend. I quit because of it.
I'm sure there is help for those that want it. I just don't want to be hurt anymore.
My parents were divorced. I lived with my mother during the first half of my life. I moved in with my father because of her abusing me. I never did attach to my father. Not that I don't love him but again I have a whole half of me I don't allow people to see. Other than my Dad, Husband, my son and in laws, I have no one in my life. I have no friends and the majority of my family has choosen to ignore me rather than struggle to have a relationship with me. I have a case worker now though who is going to help me straighten somethings out.
I have been at this site for a week. It feels like a year in a really awesome way.
