Argh-still skin crawling insomnia triggering PTSD

Friday's visit to a dermatologist for my dx for prurigo nodularis from my renai failure got me a prescription Saturday for a tube of cream that gave me a break from the skin crawling and bug biting sensations that are actually nerves dying.

But today it's all back, and the prescription tube of cream's empty already.  Argh.


The insomnia stips away my defenses to hold back PTSD symptoms at work now.  Oh, God.  My skin drives me crazy, my exhaustion made me fall asleep between classes at my desk in my office, and I had PTSD flashbacks I had no energy to respond to or process.  This is tough.  And it's just Monday.

I'm sorry you're going through that. The lack of sleep definitely messes with my PTSD too. I hope you find a spot of comfort coming up soon.

As you know, good sleep is the cornerstone for coping and good mental and physical health. Have you tried any sleep aids? I can't remember. I'm sorry you have to go through this. Wish I had words of wisdom to help. But I don't. Support for you while you try to figure this one out.

Zoe, thanks for the word about sleep aids. I used to take Seroquel and others, but since kidney disease most are off limits, including aspirin. I do take over the counter Melatonin. Thanks for reaching out whether you had words of wisdom or not. Knowing I'm not alone is what sustains me.

I've got that skin crawling and biting sensation going again tonight. I'm using a stick I bought at the pharmacy for spreading creams and lotions on a person's back, and I'm trying to get relief with over the counter cortisone cream. Your coming up alongside me here like this is very supportive. Hope you're well.

You are definitely not alone, muji.

My current scratching stick looks like a bear claw with a telescoping stick. Got it off a convenience store counter. Me and the grandson (3) do growling matches over it. You ain't THAT cute, bubba. Gimme my bear claw!!! Resistance is futile. You will be gramminated.

Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Thanks, arfie. For two hours, I fought the bedtime crawling bug bite feelings off with that cream on that stick. Then around midnight those sensations seemed to calm down and I got to sleep for a 7am wake up for work.

Woke up twice during the night but got back to sleep again. Had worry dreams, but at least while I was sleeping, right? So it was an improvement over the last two weeks. I have two classes first thing, so I hope that was enough sleep to keep my PTSD at bay to teach them decently.

Hope you got some sleep, too.

It's almost 7am on Thursday now. I'm off to another doctor's appointment at 8. Sigh.
