Youngest Son is unemployed again. He has a wife and 2 pre-school children. Of course Hubs and I believe he was gambing on his "Ace in the Hole" (hubs and I) when he quit his last job. He doesn't even have the bucks to buy baby food. His rent is already past due. His wife's birthday is this weekend. They not only need a babysitter for the birthday romance, they need financing, as well. Yes, this is the same DIL who enacted the MIL/DIL blowout with me about a year and a half ago after 7 months of hiding behind a closed door in my home while I tended her son. She blamed me when her son grew hysterical for want of access to Mama. His screams at her closed door were escalating dramatically at the time of the blowout. Grandma ain't no substitusky for Mama. Not at 18 months, at least. She punished all of us with six months of no interaction between grands. We have made some progress with her since then, but nothing well-defined. I am far from confident we can coordinate on anything more complex than using her husband/my son as a go-between. I treat my son like a single parent when he arranges childcare. His wife remains little more than a closed door to hubs and I.
I am currently tightening up the farm project far enough to head back to the Urban Homestead. The Grown-up problems of an adult son and his family are not the only reason I am heading back, but they feel like the thorniest chew in my cud as I prepare for the 4 hour drive. Looking forward to the grand-time, though. I love my grandbabies. The youngest looks like she will be taking her first steps any day now. I might have already missed it.
Prayers in progress. . . Support needed.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Sounds like a lot of overlaps. Much support to you as you think about what boundaries you might need on the one hand while still having connection to your grandkids on the other hand.
Muji, The only caveat I would put on your description of the situation is the childcare stigma. The grand time I share with my grandkids is a joy a daycare worker is not likely to experience. Girl, howdy, that heightens my sense of vulnerability in front of that closed door. Grandparents/kids have precious few rights in the family legal system.
Anyhoo, rain made the horehound harvest messier than expected. On yesterday's schedule, I expected to clean the harvest on the other end of the day. Not wise with a wet harvest. I had to do the cleaning here in order to dry it enough for transport. Time to hit the road.
High Ho, Silverado, away. . .
Despite what his wife says or does, do you think your son would consider letting you babysit? Who knows, maybe he has a lot of say in his relationship and it sounds like something you would enjoy very much. :)
Not cool at all... You've raised your family..
Maybe not coming to his rescue will help him to grow up if that makes sense
Another hug....I'm sorry you're going through this... in the grand scheme of things an adults birthday celebration is really insignificant IMHO.
They can cook at home with their children and have some family time....xo
Hugs
Nor is he the only one who is cycling. I remain convinced that when one member of the family is cycling, we all cycle. It's a family affair. The 10% of the siblings (I have 10 siblings) I have a semi-functional relationship with has offered me many clues that I am still cycling with my birth family across the 40plus year estrangement. Even my husband's chronic perfection is looking ? ?dare I say it? ? psychotic. I am beginning to wonder if his father possessed him after his death. His father was chronically perfect, too, and had the secret keeping employees and contractors to prove it.
Feels kinda good to be home, if a crazy old vagabond can really call anyplace home. Grandtime was restless last night, but quite gratifying. Daddy was impressively efficient in picking them up for church this morning while his wife kept the car doors closed.
Small steps, big faith and lots of prayer.
Anyway, you've got a sticky situation on your hands. I don't envy you one bit. I'll say a prayer for you and your family!
