The end of classes for the 2017-2018 school year is coming Friday at the community college where I teach. At first I'll feel like I've been shot out of a canon. I'll have final exams and final term papers to grade Saturday and Sunday with semester grades due in ridiculous short order on Monday morning.
Then there will be the honors awards ceremony Tuesday night. I've got a really great student I'm awarding honors to at that ceremony, so I'll be there at that, too.
We'll have our all college meetings Wednesday, a time to be challenged not to fall asleep as administrators make their required speeches.
Then a day off, and it's time to put the robe on and be part of the procession at graduation.
It's a busy enough time that I often don't have a minute for reflection, so that's what I'm trying to do hear and now in this thread. I'm a little burned out, since I've been teaching since 1980 and I have 2 years left before retirement. So I'm trying to make a list of the things I'm grateful for.
Is anybody else coming to the end of their school year?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

So a gratitude list is a great idea:-)
I'm grateful to know you, Muji. *paw bump*
Two AP tests down so far, 4 more to go. (He thought the Spanish test was easy...so that's a good sign, he is the top of his Spanish class though.)
Gratitude always feels good!!
I am long past that but my landlord/ roomie will be finished teaching for the year in June
Big hug Patti..... Your baby is all grown up..... This must be an exciting time for both of you
I hope that the next week goes well Muji.... Big hug of peace and calm.....xo
For me, this year's end is coming closer to a that milestone of retirement. Since I've been teaching since 1980, it'll be a transition from my identity of 40 years into graduating into something new for me, too. Not quite sure what, so I'm hoping to look at that uncertainty as not being a threat to my identity but an opportunity for personal growth. Suggestions welcome.
I just spoke about this topic in my journal a couple of days ago that May is usually a hectic month for us. My husband is wrapping up the semester, students are cramming last minute things, the college has their last minute things, and so on. After that there's the change in schedule and income for the summer. We have to watch every dollar.... and he goes from being busy to sitting around bored and complaining. lol. I then have to find projects for him to do.
I'm glad you are getting closer to retirement, Muji. Seems like you've been through h*ll since coming out about PTSD. I look forward to the day where you no longer have to push yourself and bosses aren't harassing you.
