Today I heard a podcast in which comedian Bobcat Goldthwait said the most serious thing I ever heard:

"You think it would be the worst thing in life to end up all alone.
Then you find out it's worse if you end up with people who make you FEEL all alone."

When five years ago, after 6 months of talking about it, my therapist convinced me I could make it on my own and got me to finally stop making myself available to my abusive family, I started to learn little by little that it was true.

Then, coming here, I learned another step about what could happen if I stopped making myself available to my abusive family and made myself available here at DS PTSD. I've ended up alone for five years, but the whole time with friends here who would never, even make me FEEL all alone. Friends here who, because they've really been there, really mean it when they say, "you're not alone" and "I know how you feel."

I heard that saying a while ago and it touched me profoundly too..... I know exactly how you feel ... I can come here and know that people 'get' me...and if they don't.. they still offer up hope and support and kind words and advice and a million other things... but one of the most important things is validation..... folks here allow me a voice..... that which was taken from me for such a long time... well it is encouraged here and that is a blessing..... my family or origin sucks.. my DS family... well.... truly to be treasured.. I never feel alone here.... there is always someone here to hold me when I need it... crack a joke when it is needed... I could go on and on... without DS my life would be very diminished.... I have made life long friends here.... some people are disparaging ..... but when others have known the depths of despair too... there is a bond that goes beyond the net.... you are so right.... when people say "you're not alone"... not only do they sincerely mean it.... but it is sincerely felt too

muj i live alone and feel alone no matter who i am around due to attachment disorder from the abuse pretoddler and other mitigating stuff i just realized it,,,,, you can be alone in a room full of people,,,,, alot of us have attachment disorder and need to bond and this room fills a need nobody else could because unless you are a survivor you would not know these levels of hope sadness even despair triumph of a person who is a survivor,,,,, this room keeps us coming back we need validation not a warm body who doesnt connect with us

Yes Muji :) I am happy I have found DS and connected with people who are so caring in this group. I have learned so much and grown in the few year I have been here.

I sang knowing I'd posted this thread just before going to the show and would rush home to tell you about the amazing coincidence of that song being the encore song for the night.
