I guess what is consistent for most people about flashbacks is reliving some aspect of the trauma. I've had them with no memory per se just overwhelming emotions of fear that make me fall on the floor I'm so overwhelmed. Another time just recently I relived my abusive step father coming back to my home after being away for a year. I was nine or ten and the time and I'm 56 now. I saw him clearly in my mind and felt the feelings over again like they were new. 51% talked about smells and tastes. There's variations different for everyone but it's about reliving the trauma. It sounds like this is what happened to you. Keep us posted on how you're doing. Peace.
But I am back in the same situation I was in back then, same place, same time, same people/person and same thing happening to me.
I have no grip on reality what so ever. In fact I have no idea what is happening in the here and now.
When I have a nightmare/flashback it is the same except in happens in a dream like state and I am sucked into it.
This is just my experience, different people may have different experiences I don't know I have never really done much research on it.
i learn more here then ive learned from the professionals.
For me it comes it flashes, or like peices of a puzzle. I will hear something ,or see something and just stop in my tracks.. knowing i have experienced this before, but can't remember it.
That is our mind , supressing the memory.
Sometimes we will NEVER remember the FULL event. Sometimes it will come back slowly in peices.
I too get anxiety. The nightmares are the worst, b/c you often cant remember what you just experienced, or why you are afraid.
