Holy cow! I was getting ready to watch the Oscars on TV tonight when suddenly police sirens and lights went wild outside my door. SIX police cars screamed to a halt literally at my door. A high speed 20 mile car chase in pursuit of some thieves ended at my door. When I say at my door, I mean at my door. One of the police cruisers jumped the curb, drove up on the sidewalk, and parked touching my front doorr.
What are the odds?
The thief driving the getaway car was drunk, too. I came out of my house and found the police making him walk the line and flunk a sobriety test on my sidewalk. The police got his sidekick out of the car and arrested her as she leaned against the wall of my house by my front door where one of the six police cruisers was parked touching up against it.
The police then searched the car and unloaded the loot on the curb on my sidewalk. They impounded the getaway car and had a flatbed truck come cart it away. For that the police asked me to move my car out of my driveway to make room.
The thieves' victims showed up then, really angry. It was a couple who own a store 20 miles away where the crime happened and the chase began. The lady in the couple had to identify the jewelry the thieves stole from her that was found in the car. The police laid it all out on my lawn for her to look at. The gentleman in the couple had to identify tools and a chainsaw they stole from him. The police laid those out in my driveway for him to look at.
I offered the couple a blanket, because it got chilly while the whole thing was sorted out.
The police found pills in the car, and it turned out that the thieves were stealing to support a drug habit.
I'm surprised I was able to be calm and that my PTSD wasn't really that triggered by it all. I reminded me of how I used to have to interact with police, criminals, and crime victims daily when I was an ER chaplain in Chicago.
Again, what were the odds that a high speed 20 mile car chase would end up literally with 6 police cruisers, then thieves' getaway car, and the victims' pickup truck all at my door? Holy cow!
Real life can be kinda nutty sometimes, can't it? Like some cops and robbers Bonny & Clyde movie came to my home. After the real life episode of Law & Order at my door, I did finally get to watch the Oscars, though.

Surprised you needed Oscars after all that excitement.

It's really amazing the whole thing went down without any violence at all, come to think of it. I thank my lucky stars.
