4 docs in 2 days and work...
I've got to get in my car in an hour or so and drive an hour and 15 minutes away to a doctor's appointment for an ultrasound this morning related to my bariatric surgery I had last December.
Then I've got to drive back to town here for an afternoon dental appointment. I broke a crown (and swallowed it) just before Mexico, so I've been missing a molar all summer. No pain because the root is from a root canal, but now the root has to be extracted and an implant put in. While in Mexico I had a local dentist check it out, and he found a tooth next to it was infected at the root. He had his beautiful young junior dentist work on that for me. Then for good measure he had another beautiful young junior dentist do an unnecessary biopsy on a dark spot on my inner cheek trying to scare me it might be "cancer."
Next the estimate of what I was going to pay out of pocket for all of this and for a list they gave me of other future unnecessary work went up 3 times, and I realized I was in a Mexican dental tourism trap. As I walked out of the dentist's office, I happened upon this tourist from the USA, a loud lady who didn't speak any Spanish, being led from one room to another and it confirmed I was a mark for these guys. Ruh roh. I canceled further appointments, so now I have to fess up to this dentist here in Cumberland about why I have half a root canal in my mouth. I have dental insurance through work, so I'm less likely to have this USA dentist try to empty my pockets for me like that. I'm not looking forward to explaining the whole story, though. Oh, well.
Tomorrow I see my psychiatrist and then go see my neurologist about the neuropathy in my legs from the nerve damage I got from kidney disease caused by the high doses of Seroquel my former psychiatrist put me on. 4 doctors in 2 days. For a guy like me who lives alone because of having a high startle response and not enjoying being touched, it's a lot.
Then there's the matter of going back to work in a workplace that doesn't feel embracing and full of warmth to me these days as I begin my next to last school year before I retire. My boss and my boss's boss are both making provisions to replace me, provisions that are necessary but that have begun with less than sensitivity.
For example, I found out last semester that the main course I teach nursing students from my previous hospital chaplaincy years, death and dying class, was being rewritten in our college catalog without my knowledge. The new instructor has personal issues with religion and so she rewrote my class's catalog description to eliminate any inclusion of religious views at the end of life because, she said, she's more "scientific." It was a little hard to take because as a hospital chaplain I worked on a brain surgery unit, which they tell me is pretty cutting edge science in most hospitals. Sure was in mine.
Kind of feeling like a old fogey piece of meat this morning. Support welcome.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Wow that's a lot to deal with.
So sorry about all you have to put up with at work.
Much steadying support.
I fully agree that is too many doc appts in 2 days. Glad the psych doc will be in the mix the second day.
You are now facing the rough part of retiring with two years notice. They may be hoping you will leave as the pressure comes on. That is an unfortunate but common practice. Remember, you were able to design classes that replaced someone else's. The new instructor may find that the spiritual aspects are raised regardless of her wishes. Just too big a part of the death and dying process to be ignored.
Showers of all kinds of hugs as you need them. Just reach for whichever you need in the moment.
I really feel for you Muji….. I'm sure glad that the cancer scare was negative
Deep breaths... I hope that you have some nice and restful time in between all of your running around..... You're going to need a new comedy club soon.....xo
I really clenched up my whole body tight like a fist in the first appointment, because it involved a lot of touching in tender places of my body. It was a follow up to my weight loss stomach surgery last December, which I'm really glad for because I've now lost 108 pounds.
Nonetheless, in follow up it was an ultrasound appointment to get images of my stomach this far into recovery, plus to get images of my kidneys to see how my chronic kidney disease is going after we stopped the Seroquel and diabetes kidney damage. I went in kidding the technician about how I expected the ultrasound would reveal "a routine, healthy pregnancy," since pregnancy's what a lot of ultrasounds are for. She got a kick out of that, but still there was a lot of rolling me over from side to side and putting the ultrasound imaging device down there where, as a survivor of pedophile assault, I don't like to be touched.
I got through it ok in the end, but like I said, I really clenched up tight during that first appointment, I was pretty wiped out when I got home after the second one, and so I collapsed on my couch and slept hard when I got home.
Now, two more doctor's appointments tomorrow. The psychiatrist is pretty routine nowadays, he just renews my Prazosin prescription for my PTSD nightmares and talks encouragement to me about hanging in there until I can retire to Mexico in 2 years. He himself is retiring to Panama, he's already got his permanent residency card, so he gets how good returning to Latin America can be. He just went to Panama this summer like I went to Mexico myself.
The neuropathy exam after that tomorrow gets a little dicey sometimes. For him to check how far the kidney disease nerve damage has gone in my legs, he has to poke me with needles to tell where my nerves are dead and I'm numb, and where my nerves are still alive and feeling the needle pricks. Once again, as a survivor of pedophile assault and torture under capture in combat, I'm more content not to be touched, so being touched this way kind of winds me up tight. I get through it, but it's exhausting for me, both anticipating it and coming down from it after.
Thanks for your support. One more day of these appointments. And then I turn to the stuff at work....
I appreciate having you all back me up through this. Grateful to you all.
I’m rooting for you fellow warrior
Sending support & gentlest of hugs <3
