At the community college where I teach I have a student this semester that is impressing the heck out of me with her courage. Most of all because she doesn't try to impress, she just does her thing. She's a mother of a 5 year old girl who was born with her intestines on the outside. Her little girl just had her 14th surgery to repair the birth defect. 14 surgeries and she's just 5.
The mom, my student, lets me know when she's got to be at the hospital for her daughter. She doesn't play the hero or the martyr, then. She does ask for help. On the other hand, when she's not at the hospital she's in class. She's always the one who comes to class with her homework done on time, too.
Whoa. I am really impressed with this person who is under a lot of stress.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Somewhere during the course of my over-compensation therapy, it became glaringly obvious to me that humans are at their most impressive when they are not trying to be impressive, at all.
