Hi, I'm new here.. although I am not new to PTSD.. I was raped 10 years ago and have been dealing with the effects of PTSD since. So, for those who have been sexually abused or in similar situations, I have a good question for you to ask yourself... did anything positive come from your situation?...
For me.. yes... I am not under any circumstances glad that I was raped, although I am glad that I was able to use my own experience to help my friend who was also raped. So if that is the only thing positive that came from being raped than so be it.

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...

My abuse started early , but was compounded with a bunch of other stuff as time went on. Complex because there is so much intertwined. As for what am I thankful about? I am more compassionate, empathetic and artistic for it. I spent so much time creating my hiding places in front of the abuse drawing out the pain and anxiety on what ever was handy, that my skills got better from repetition.
Can we can broaden this one to anyone who has suffered PTSD, whatever the root trauma(s)? In my VA and Al-anon groups, we are often amazed at the diversity of trauma which can produce similar symptoms. As one doctor put it, "It don't matter what shattered the bone. It still needs the same treatment."
My illness has allowed me to see human depths and healing within amazing people I would never have met without the needs of my recovery.
Welcome to the forum, meg.
So I became a hospital chaplain from it who worked in the emergency room in Chicago to welcome patients at the ambulance door fresh from trauma from rapes, gunshot wounds, and car accidents. I never got "cured" from PTSD to do that, it's just that once I could manage mine I could understand theirs. Kind of like you with your friend who was also raped, yeah.
I feel stronger now in things that I can do.
Don't get me wrong at the time I was like oh my god I will never get over this, but thankfully now I'm like I barely think of it and I'm happy it happened because I would have never discovered my worth.
