Literal cool don't come easy in an East Texas June. Hard to tell it at 60MPH, but the Brazos valley still thinks it is the western edge of the great swampland of the South East corner of North America.

Still not too far from the Eff Bomber. Like it or not, they are still family and my busy bees are sitting on the FIL's property. Just his property. He, the MIL and their army of employees live in the Houston suburbs. Ya dance with what God sends ya...

Feels good to have internet again, if only for a couple of days. The media fast did me good, but... Am I officially an internet junkie now?

I am a quasi-junkie. I have to work via internet, so... coming here is my brain's break from that.... but the company here is good, so heck with it!

I got my first computer job in 1973 when a computer with less power than my current wrist watch was still a multi-million dollar machine. I have had time for three career burn-outs since then. The idea of computing for pleasure is still pretty new to me. My most recurring nightmare over those decades has been of computers chasing me through mazes of office hallways with no exits.

But...

Methinks I have arrived... Maybe... Still haven't joined the gaming sites...

Ha! I wrote a 350 doctoral dissertation on an Atari in grad school in the 1980s. Remember those?

Meant 350 page dissertation. It could only hold 30 pages at a time in its memory, so it helped me not get long winded.....

I can beat that.
I wrote my thesis on a typewriter.
Our college charged a hundred bucks a semester if you used the computer lab.
The typewriter was my mom's. Free. Revisions were trickier, but sheesh, paper was a lot cheaper than a hundred bucks for a computer lab only open eight hours a day, with only one printer for 20 computers!

Yeah, I did the typewriters all the way through my B.A., manual only. Had to bang on that baby. Built up finger muscles Arnold Schwarzenegger would have envied. Had to put the Spanish accent marks in by hand though.

Then went electric for the M.A. Like when Bob Dylan went from the acoustic guitar to the electric. I thought the IBM Selectrix with the interchangeable font metal balls and white out key was the bomb! It had a Spanish font metal ball , too.

I learned to type on those old manual typewriters. When I took my CAD training, the instructor kept slapping the table by my keyboard and saying, "Quit trying to murder my keyboards!"
