No, this is not OT. I am in a fragile state I am far from having a handle on. Sorting in progress. . .
Over the course of my two years of keeping chickens, I have come to quip that a day when each of my mature hens give me an egg, it is a good day. A day where I only find one or two eggs feels like a bit of a crisis day for me. For most of this past summer, I have had 7 mature hens. A 7 egg day is a good day, indeed.
It is not a real big surprise that I have been having a string of one or three egg days. My feather babies get quite snooty when human affairs --such as a death in the family-- get in the way of their daily routines. The folks covering their feed and water while I have been out of town are night shift workers. Good luck trying to get chickens to understand brunch. I bet the dawn feed is not even the only thing they missed. Chickens adore hobby gardeners. The busy efficiency of garden pros/honey-doers just scares them.
Guess I got a bit over-emotional about today's two-egg day. Maybe. I don't remember saying much, but Hubs blew up at me. He is still looking and sounding like a 250 pound bomb shell. Eldest son (36, living with us) was on hubby's side, of course, but did admirably well at not getting overly involved. The two men have watched me keep chickens for two years. How do you spell expert? Eldest son's signivicant other (more or less living with us?) stayed out of it completely, but all doors are closed and the household silence is deafening.
Guess today's eggshells are all metaphorical. Egg Shell Waltz, anyone?
Just venting. Sorting in progress. . . Think I'll go talk it over with my pillow.
Just venting.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Having flashbacks to the bee mobbing two years ago when we moved the hives from his father's investment property. A bee mobbing is an intense experience. The beekeeper allergy remains a medical mystery. . . I miss my relaxed relationship with my bee friends. I still haven't made the transition from my lifelong relationship with foraging bees and full collaborator in hubby's bee biz. He got his first hives in 2012. I have tried to collaborate with him, but. . . I think I am growing a hatred of the word, "collaborate." Just give me my orders of the day before you go off to your busy day, boss. It is the family tradition. Just ask the adopted nurse/sister who is still calling you three times a day.
His father's parting drama has been a tough nut bag to swallow. I mark the current drama's beginning from August 1st (my own mother's birthday/17th stroke anniversary) when he fell and broke his hip. It has been a long, hard summer. . .
Here's a puma shoulder to help bear some of the burdens:-)
in henhouse , I keep bees as well hugs sorry your feeling like that hugs min
I am sorry that your FIL's death is affecting the family so much and that you seem to be the target of their grief/anger. I hope it passes soon. many Hugs.
I also buy them "Layer" feed from a feed store to supplement their foraging diet. They go through about 50 pounds a month, give or take. I put the feed in tall grass so that they will "mow the lawn" for me. The turf thrives on it. Their little talons can reach places a weed wacker can only dream of reaching.
