Good day everyone,
I am new to the site. I am so glad I found it! I was diagnosed with PTSD 2 years ago after finally seeking help for the craziness that was going on inside me. I just got to a point where I couldn't take it anymore. I have never spoken to family or friend's about my lifetime struggle with numerous symptoms. I have always tried to take care of it myself, and not bother anyone with my problems. I have a tried a few things the past few years. OK maybe more than a few things. I jumped right into recovery with both feet, and totally overwhelmed and re-traumatized myself. It's a hard balance to find I think. I am now in a place where I feel very stuck, and not sure what to do anymore. I have taken a step back, and am at looking at everything I have been doing, and trying to figure out my next steps.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

When I started therapy to deal with the sexual abuse in my past I wanted to attack it full on and was frustrated when my therapist insisted on going at it "from a position of strength". She started out by having me identify my strengths and coping mechanisms, and learning how to be kind to and take care of myself/my inner child. I haven't fully followed up on all that, but it turns out my own psyche keeps the brakes on anyway.
A lot of information about how to take care of yourself through this process is in the "Courage to Heal" and "Courage to Heal Workbook". A part of healing is learning to take care of ourselves. It's annoying that it's such a slow process, but that's just the way it has to be. It's not a task to complete, it's a way of living.
I will repeat what Donna said, DS-PTSD has helped me by seeing how we all heal differently and have many suggestions to help each other. Therapy helped me a great deal and I did the same thing, backed off when I needed or need to.
There are a lot of great people here that help each other to grow and Ihope you find that too.
