i visualize my mental capability as fragmented at times, like broken glass on a floor. It is all there, just scattered and requiring a lot of work to gather and reconnect. Perhaps this is why this happens when we read sometimes. It is our COMPREHENSION that is failing, not our mental state or our intellect, but because COMPREHENSION is required, it takes a COMPREHENSIVE effort that maybe we are sometimes not capable of because of the fragmentation?
Minnieha, I have had this as well during conversation. My family sometimes calls me "Gramps" because I will look at them and say "start over, I did not get any of that!"
My scariest experience with this phenomena has occurred driving. Several weeks ago I found myself in town on a road I never travel. Not so bad except I was not heading to town when I left and have no memory of turning or driving the 20+ miles out of my way!
Sorry so wordy. Probably should have answered in shorter sentences since none of us can read well anymore:)
Another piece of imput I might give at risk of offending someone (and I hope I don't) is this:
Scripture in particular is a living word. It is spoken although it is written, the voice of a creator attempting to communicate. allow yourself the grace to receive a message rather than pressuring yourself to read and understand. Sometimes we pressure ourselves simply because we know we have frailties and we miss the simplest things. If you cannot focus on a page, a chapter or a verse, sit for a moment and think...thousands of years, hundreds of thousands of people, hundreds of countries and somehow, you hold a copy...you are special just because of that even if you can't read a single word today. I believe thee is a spirit that surpasses the words. Lat THAT talk to you when you're struggling.
I used to dissociate 4-5 times a week while I drove...very frightening. It's gotten much better now..only about once every two weeks now.
