Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group

Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Meow,

Right now (4/24/14) I feel good. Medicines seem to be helping like they should, and all diseases seem to be under a bit of control. So, I think I'm on a semi-remission and able to make up for lost time.

But am I really? Now, I'm a tad afraid of doing too much, too soon. I'm worried that too much activity will cause a flare of the PM or the Fibro.

Am I just a scardy-cat????

How do y'all handle your good days???

Hi Buttercup Kitty - really glad you are feeling good - on my fairly good days I do want to do a lot (gardening, decorating etc) BUT I did push it too far the other week and ended up the next day with sore muscles and really tired. I would suggest taking it easy and doing a little bit more at a time. If you feel tired or sore I would leave what you are doing and have a rest. You are certainly not a scardy-cat!!

Hi Buttercup. You are not a scary cat just a bit anxious like us all. I find to this day that not everyday is a great day, some days are still very quiet days for me and if I walk too much or stay up too late or push it , then tomorrow I can't do so much. Best wishes to you. Autumm

I am one who needs to push the edges so i know where they are... I do more on a day i know i have a free day next, so i can take the time to recover if i must. I feel like a moving target, so i need to test regularly. I am not in remission of any kind, i am on IVIG and medrol but i still have better days and good days and rest days. Use it when you have it and stop short of totally over do ing it... My best to you.

I am brand new in the group and this is actually my first comment. Awesome you are feeling good. On my good days I don't want to be inside home and I try to spend my day enjoying the views all over or visiting places, visiting friends, walking with my dog, I like to go to church and joying praying groups. :) Big hug!!!

Welcome to this group of nice people. I hope you will find encouragement here with us. What form of myositis do you have? I have PM, with overlapping DM and Lupus.

Be sure to read some of the older posts, as they contain lots of good info. Plus you can get to know each of us better that way. Sorry that you must be part of this group, but glad you found us.
