Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
I have an itchy patch on one of my shoulder blades and my scalp has been a little itchy lately, I'm just wondering how common is dermamyositis with polymyositis? My rash is just very small red bumps at the moment.
It could be due to the dryness here or I'm wondering about possible medication side effects?

I have DM and my rashes are mostly bilateral (both cheeks, both elbows, both hips and both hands). I also have some other itchy patches that are only on one side, but I don't know if that is just dry skin. It seems to be dry skin season so if I were you I would moisturize and if it doesn't help tell your doctor about it.

Thanks Maruska. I started putting some bee's wax moisturizer and put some aveeno anti itch cream on this morning. It really helped stop the itch. I called the pharmacist this morning and she said that both the drugs I'm on could cause that (prednisone and imuran) The imuran is photosensitive so I know you have to be careful to use sunscreen even in the winter. I didn't realize what would happen if I didn't use sunblock?

Cadolph, Nanny always has a good recommendation for a moisturizer. I have DM but no itch with my rashes. I do know that aloe vera works well. I even have an aloe vera drink that is terrific for my stomach. Drinking lots of water is always good for your skin.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
