Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Pneumonia injection

morning all, just wondering your views on the pneumonia injection. Been advised to have it but has anyone had it and had any adverse effects? I always worry about what else has to go into my body and the reaction. As I have DM don't want to "rock the boat" as at the moment feeling sort of OK on the MTX and steroid.

Hi Amber. I had this at diagnosis. The Rheumatologist wrote to my GP and insisted on it. I had no reaction at all and being so immune suppressed I believe it's a !must' for us. To quote my Rheumatologist 'it needs doing sooner rather than later'. I am sure you will be fine. I believe my GP left a week between it and the flu jab. autumm

I've had it in the past and had no problem with it. I am PM though so I don't have to worry about the rash.

I understand about being skeptical about vaccines. This vaccine is not a live vaccine. My doctor has not twisted my arm to take this one yet.

I had the shot about 2 years ago and ended up in the ER because of my breathing, but I do have lung problems, but if you don't have lung problems then it should be OK . Best of luck to you

I had the pneumonia shot a little over a month ago - I had a HORRIBLE reaction. I think it triggered my something in DM. About 5 hrs after the shot I started having the bruised feeling and by hour 8 I wasn't able to move extend or move my arm. Excruciating pain every time I moved or got up. The excruciating pain lasted abt 48hrs. Then slowly but surely I was able to start moving my arm again. If you do get it, I'd get it on a Friday night so you don't have to call into work. Also because I had this reaction I've been advised not to get the flu shot. Good luck!

Hi there. I am sorry to read of the relations to the pneumonia shot. I have lung issues and it's because I have lung issues my Rheumatologist insisted on my having the shot. Being on immune suppressing drugs with lung problems was a really good reason in his opinion for me to have the shot. No problems at all. Autumm
