Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

I was given Novolog for my diabetes when I got out of the hospital to cover the elevation caused by the Prednisone and last night was reading about the side effects online and was surprised to find out that one of them was swelling of the feet.

I am going to a full day diabetes class tomorrow and my diabetes nurse will be there, so I can check it out with her. I want an answer and hopefully Novolog is the reason. At least then maybe I can change to something else.

Thanks for pointing out that side effect - I was not aware of that. There are other meds that also contribute to feet swelling - notably calcium channel blockers (used for high blood pressure) Let us know if there are other fast acting insulins that don't have the swelling as a side effect. My doctor just told me that i would probably have to put up with some ankle and foot swelling.

I will note here that too much salt intake really can contribute to this problem also, especially if you are on prednisone. The prednisone influences the way your body handles salt.
