Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
I am in shock. The first time I fell I just thought it was an accident but now i am so upset I just realised today it is part of this condition. Why didn't any doctors or specialists tell me? What else haven't they told me?
I just tripped and fell down badly for no reason. i keep stumbling and losing my balance. I am going through all the emotions as it is grief for loss of another part of me. (and I thought I was coping so well - going to physio, doing my exercises, taking my immunosuppressants) Falling over is not a thing i can cope with at work, it is so humiliating, I am only working 6 hours a week but may have to quit!!!
Sorry all these things are going through my head besides the extra pain from the fall. i don't know where to turn besides you guys but don't really know what to ask. Does PM end in a wheel chair sometimes and when? I think I have had this condition for a long time and no one knew what it was so got no treatment. I am such a sad sack today and can't stop crying.

I broke my left foot after falling down 3 basement steps and I know how scary it can be. the good news is, it goes away with treatment, so take comfort in that.
