Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
Nausea can be caused by MTX. If the nausea goes away then you might be able to conclude the problem is the MTX.
Nausea that does not go away is a problem other than the medication. Think about the other symptoms you are having along with the nausea. Have you checked your blood pressure? Have you checked your blood sugar? It is important to check things especially when you feel bad. Write down your other symptoms too.
Chronic nausea during a flare could be a result of an elevated liver enzyme during the flare. I always get nausea during a flare.
Think about your other symptoms and talk to the doctor. I will put in a prayer for you. Keep us posted.
I have thought a lot about this issue, and I decided to just stay with the current quack I see on a regular basis for now. The rheumy can not do anything except give the SAME medications that they all prescribe. When the meds do not work, then you stop the drug or take something else for a short period. Any real complications with an organ means that another specialist will take over anyway. We must do our own research and decide to see another specialist on our own. I see the gastroenterologist tomorrow to find if I have internal bleeding as a cause of low, low blood pressure. I will see the cardiologist also to see if the pressure problem may be heart valves. DM is a puzzle. Go with your symptoms and knock on other doors. Good Luck.
