Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
It's possible that you're other muscles are hurting because they're being over-/mis-used to compensate for your weak thigh muscles. This was puzzling to me at first, too. Take care,

I know for certain that my left leg is making up for the muscle biopsy that was taken from the right leg. There is no other reason for it to hurt as much as the right leg. They both hurt even when I am sitting down. They hurt in the exact same area of the thigh. I call it sympathy pain and the left leg needs to get over it. Righty can cause enough pain on her own.
