I've never heard of it, so I looked it up. Many of the articles associated this condition with Lupus and Rheumatic Fever. One article included Scleroderma, too. In the early days of my PM, there were times that my fingers would seize up and go in different directions, but fortunately that stopped, because it made normal tasks impossible to do. Good idea ShawnaN - JA is swelling of the hands with great pain and your fingers turn out. I am at the swelling (can't wear rings) and great pain stage. It was so bad the other night the pain kept me awake. It is in the muscles and I noticed it in my feet too.

The pain is like when you wake up and are stiff and you stretch after a couple of hours the pain subsides. This pain does not go away. I am currently not on meds for DM as I am in remission so that can not be the culprit. My fingers are beginning to look like hot dogs.

Many autoimmune diseases overlap. My doc is testing me for Lupus again which may be a problem. Once I was diagnosed with DM that is what we have been watching.

No JA thank goodness - no Lupus. Swelling and pain some sort of arthritis and inflammation so I am once again Lucky - thus the name.
