I'm on Cellcept as well and have experienced a weight gain but it seems that your's seems excessive, especially for that short of a period of time.
I'll be very interested to hear what others have to say about their experiences and outcomes.

That was totally my experience on Prednisone. I gained 60 lbs in a year. At one point, I was gaining 10 -15 lbs over a week or two. It was shocking. I would put clothes in the laundry and by the time they came back up, they no longer fit.

It is a known side effect of Prednisone.

I do not know anything about cellcept but I know prednisone can do it though.....I have been on it different times and most of the time I lost weight like this time but I have also taken it and put on 10lbs or so. Nothing compared to you though. I also took the weight off when I wenet off the prednisone....I hope this does not mean that once I am off prednisone in a few weeks that I will gain the weight I lost......

I do not know why it affects people differently as it did me.....all I can say is I do hope you get some answers to help.

At first on the prednisone I lost 20 pounds (fluid in my lower extremities, mostly) and then two months later the gaining started. But I have halved the dosage now and I'm still gaining and the Cellcept and Lyrica are the only things that are new. I am going to have to sew my lips together! :o) I can't do much exercise due to ILD so I feel really screwed! I wanted to lose weight before I meet with the transplant people because I know they're going to say I'm too fat!

I have gained 25 pounds with the predizone/cellcept. Initially I didn't gain any weight and thought, hmmm, I must not have that side effect, but now I am having to buy new clothes for work, etc. I haven't upped my eating at all, but I do need to move more, take walks, - I am trying to do pulmonary rehab for my ILD, but havent' been able to get there because of work.

I am still new to this dm problem and have noticed the same weight problems. In the beginning I lost about 25 pounds - which dropped me to under 100 pounds. After starting the prednisone treatment I have gained 30 pounds and am starting to feel uncomfortable. The strange thing is that I'm gaining weight, but have no appetite and eat only when I have to take pills. I've tried working out but 30 min of walking leaves me completely drained for the entire next day. I've been dealing with my "flare-up" since november and am ready to return to some kind of "normalcy". I started methotrexate 5 weeks ago so am hoping to lower the prednisone if this treatment works. Maybe that will help with the appetite and weight problem Good luck to you and know that you aren't the only one =)

I have a treadmill at home but due to the severity of my ILD I can only walk at a snail's pace (1.3 miles/hour) as even though I'm on oxygen when I'm on the treadmill I still desaturate. I am up to 17 minutes. This burns about 45 calories. :o) I wish I didn't love food so much. I used to take my pills with yogourt but I cut that out as I thought, who needs the extra calories? I did not eat for nearly a year, so at first I thought I was 'entitled' to eat when my body started functioning again. I think the 'entitlement' ship has sailed. Why do these medications have to make you fat?

Ugh. I hate it. I was soooooo proud of myself for losing 60 pounds on Weight Watchers--kept it off for almost 2 years!!! Then I was diagnosed in May 2009. I was put on Predinsone (60mg/day) for apx 6 months. I gained like 5 pounds week! My eating didn't change too drastically, but I just kept packing on the pounds. Now, I'm the heaviest I have ever been. Every medication I take has a side effect of weight gain.

I am careful about my eating choices and do 20 min on the elliptcal 3 days a week. Still, I am plus size lady when in my mind I should still be a very trim and fit lasy. It makes me sad. So, very, very sad.

I'm the same way JustG. I didn't change my eating....well it might have gotten more healthy but I still kept gaining weight. I too am larger than I've ever been in my life. It is so frustrating to be so large when I eat small meals and exercise regularly. It is clear me to that Prednisone impacts your metabolism. I don't know how to turn it around while I am still on Prednisone.

I began last year with a major weight loss (15 lbs in about a month) and now have finally put back on weight, and have noticed with lower dose of prednisone my wt gain is increasing....Good luck, pred will almost definitely cause some wt gain.

When I was initially diagnosed I was put on 60mg of prednisone. I lost 27 pounds, mostly muscle mass. I have been decreasing the prednisone 5 mg each month, I'm now down to 20mg. I also take 10mg of methotrexate each week. the weight gain started in December, I have put on about 25 pounds. I seem to really be putting on the pounds with the prednisone dropping, I thought it would work the other way, lose some weight as the dosage gets smaller. My Dr did say that all the dieting and excersise would not help, prednisone just has those horrible side effects, go ahead and keep active but you won't get results, just don't get discouraged. Well I am discouraged, I hate what's happening to my body. I'm so uncomfortable and self conscious.

Yes, I experienced the same thing. First put on 40mg prednisone and lost nearly 20 pounds (it was fluid retention - my legs were really swollen). Then two months later the weight started piling up and the fat deposits started (along with the moon face) and I gained back that 20 pounds and the hits just kept on coming. I figured that with dropping the prednisone I'd lose weight, too, but I did notice the fluid retention is a lot worse (though not nearly as bad) so I expected to gain 'some' weight because of that. I am so frustrated.

I originally had 28 lbs of muscle atrophy (wasting) at the onset of my PM, and I also have gained back a TON of weight from the Prednisone and Cellcept (I think it's the combination). I am now 5lbs heavier than when I was healthy, but it's not muscle anymore! errr it's frustrating isn't it?

Yeah, it's just not fair. So since I can't exercise much I guess I'll REALLY have to watch what I eat. Since the weight gain 'gained' momentum after starting Cellcept (especially at its full dose), I kind of figured that was the culprit. I am going to start dosing down on prednisone this week (again). I HOPE that it will make some sort of difference and yet keep me feeling relatively well.

I went through the same thing recently with no explanation. Are you under a great deal of stress! My Rheum explained to me that healthy people create a natural steroid "cortisol" that is the body's equivalent to prednisone. People with autoimmune diseases can create abnormally large amounts (up to 60 mg day) of that hormone when under extreme amounts of stress. It regulates water retention, weight gain, and fatigue levels.
