Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Generic Cellcept

Hello all. I was just at the pharmacy and noticed that Pharmacare was covering less of my prescription this month. I asked the pharmacist and she checked and said that a generic version of Cellcept is now on the market, and that is why my percentage getting paid is less (because it's based on the generic cost). Has anyone used the new generic? And if so, did you experience any side effects? I'm not so jazzed about changing my medication and if my insurer doesn't push for me to change, I just might eat the extra money and keep on the Cellcept, since I have so many problems adjusting to medications.

I will discuss it with my doctor next month, but I was wondering if any of you had tried it yet.

I took it for 6 mos. Never tried the brand name. I got one that was White.

I have always taken the generic because my insurances wouldn't cover the name brand. I haven't had any problems with it. Mine is named Mycophenolat and I take four 500 mg pills per day.

I take the same as Brenda and mine are lavender. What is the name of your generic? -:)

I guess the generic is just available in Canada now as this has never come up before. I take 3000 of Cellcept now, so I'm guessing I'd take that much of the generic, too.

I'm glad to hear no one is experiencing any problems - though I've read on other boards that some doctors are against the generic. I mean, my pharmacist said people often react 'more' to a generic (and I'm TERRIBLE with reactions to drugs), but I could try it for a month and then go back to Cellcept if I had to, I suppose. At the beginning of the year, before Pharmacare kicks in at all, the monthly cost of Cellcept, even with my insurance, is pretty high.
