Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

I had this happened to me about a week and a half ago. The doctor tapered me from the prednisone. Instead of 40 the pharmacy gave me 5mg and it said to take 20mg. Since the doctor office was closed I just took it. That saturday night I was having pain in my kneck on my right side. The next night at work I was having pain from righ side of my neck down to the right side of my abdomen. It was hard to walk and take deep breaths. I consulted the doctor a couple days after. She said it was from the prednisone.

I am now getting that pain again in my neck. I have been taking 25mg of prednisone since wednesday of Last week, so for a week and a half. I'm afraid of that terrible pain coming back again. :(

I usually get bad neck pain as a sign that my arthritic symptoms are about to flare up. I too get kind of nervous during this time, knowing the painful days that lay ahead.

However I should also mention that I just had my muscle biopsy and am not yet diagnosed. I am AB pos for one of the myositis antibodies.

Hi...sorry you don't feel well. I have the neck pain on and off as well. Its like you always have a stiff neck. Lots of cracking too. I don't know why just Thot another symptom of the disease.

Krissytin, I am a pain in the neck without being on 25mg of prednisone! HA! I would call the doctor asap to decide where to go from here. I will put in a prayer for you. Sorry to hear about the pain. Keep us posted on what happens with the tapering.
