Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
hi everyone :)
had a doc appt today with rheumy. went very well!! he was so happy with my progress. i'm getting my meds switched over to pill form and will start taking everything through my mouth-and if all goes well we'll yank the stomach tube!! i'm 7pounds away from being my normal weight again and he was impressed with my increase in strength since last visit. yay!!
anyway my question...i've developed some acne as a side effect from the prednisone (on 40ml daily now, hopefully we'll decrease this week after getting bloodwork back). doc wrote me a prescription for a topical cream which i'm totally fine with, but first we're going to see how much it costs-it will likely be expensive and i have limited funds w/ my insurance, so i just need to watch what i'm doing. has anyone used Cleocin topical cream (aka Clindamycin)? if not, have you used something else to treat breakouts from prednisone? the stuff i normally use isn't cutting it :/ i want to give myself enough time to try products and if it doesn't work, find something else...3 months til the wedding! want a clear face asap :) thanks for any input!

I don't know if it will help for acne, but my dermatologist has given me a rx for a cream called mometasone (elocon) 0.1% and it has helped a lot with redness and inflammation. It does have prednisone in it.
I also tried lots of other creams that did not work and some caused more inflammation.
I hope you find something that helps.

also decreasing prednisone today. down to 15ml!
coconut oil is a good idea! i might have to try that since i'm sure the topical cream will dry my skin out
