Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
When I was on the high doses of Prednisone (60mg, 50, 40), I told my husband I was not myself and not to let me make any important decisions. I also avoided large gatherings because I wasn't sure I could control what I said. I stopped driving because I thought that if I ever had an accident, the other people involved would probably be able to build a good case against me. I didn't gain any weight until I was below 30mg.
Regarding sleeping at the high doses, I was happy if I slept for 3 hours. I didn't try any sleep aids because I didn't want anything to interfere with Prednisone doing it's job.
It's great that you are feeling better!
Wishing you strength and peace.
For sleeping I tried not to worry. If I woke up in the middle of the night I got up and read. I also use lavender essential oil on my pillow to help with sleep. I also take a magnesium citrate supplement called CALM and it helps me get to sleep.
Hopefully you can have naps during the day. I know I slept alot last summer and still get tired. Do rest and take care of yourself! Sending prayers and Reiki to you. Roxanna
And again caution against dooing too much when you feel so able. The body is not all caught up with the mind just yet...
All the best to you, Shawna
