I am glad you are going to the doctor, as I'm not a doctor, but not sure of your age, but may be perimenopausal? That's when my menopause came on when I didn't have my period. Good luck with your doctor appt. and keep us posted.

My problem has been the opposite. My periods have been so heavy, I went on birth control pills to help manage it better. I thought I was going to die before - it was so miserable. Of course, birth control kind of regulates your period so I am pretty regular.

I am 22, I suspect it is a consequence of the medications I am on. I also have thyroid disease though so I am worried my thyroid could be the culprit...

I started taking MTX in 2002 which stopped mine completely...

This is interesting. I was taking progesterone because my periods were too heavy. In October of 2010 my periods stopped. In December I got DM. I have not had a period in a year. I was assuming that I was perimenopausal. I am 48. I now thought that I have hit menopause, but I did not know that our medication will stop the periods. This means I may not have hit menopause, I just have not had a period due to the drugs. WOW! I am glad you brought up this topic because I will also need to talk to my doctor. When I first was diagnosed and put on Methotrextrate, Plaquinil, Prednisone and a few other meds, I was thrown into an early menopause. I don't know if it was caused from the disease itself or from the meds. Blessings,

I cant believe this is your question; I'm going to post one of the opposite. I keep getting my periods more often.

well I got my results back from the doctor. it seems to be my thyroid, which is low. no surprise there. they gave me hormones to jumpstart my period, and hopefully they will work.

unfortunately my CPKs are astronomical (i had them tested too because, hey why not?). lame. they are 11,000 :(

I too have issues with my periods - i recently went 2 years with no period. I take medication for an endocrine disorder as well, and it appears to have been from a combination of diet and those drugs. I found that adding in more animal fat, avocados, and slightly reducing my dosage for one of the drugs managed to bring it back.

Initially they put me on various forms of estrogen (my estrogen was very low during this period of time) and it sent my AI into overdrive. I would advise proceeding with caution there...

I do not know if it is related to your PM (I have DM), but I do know that the meds I was on for PCOS (the endocrine thing) were FINE for YEARS before I was diagnosed with DM. After doing prednisone/maint dose of Plaquenil is when I really started having problems with no period. I suspect that some of it may be the PCOS medication...some might be from the DM...some may be from the Plaquenil.

For the record - in the past, prednisone has been MORE likely to make me bleed - increases i think cortisol (?) and insulin, which throws estrogen/testosterone out of whack and can start a whole chain of 'stuff'....plus the weight gain (for me) tends to signal my body to do something. However when my weight got too high (classic PCOS) my period also vanished.
