I have had that a few nights. I am on a high dose of prednisone and just assumed it had to do with that. Seems like it only happens at night. I never have any "hot flashes" during the day.....not sure what it is!

I think you're right. I'm giving the Prednisone as much of an open mind as I possibly can, but I looked into more after both nights of sweats and it is a possible side effect of that type of med. It suggested taking the doses earlier in the day. Thanks for writing back! Hope you have a good day :)

I had night sweats before the prednisone just as a function of the DM. I continued for a few months but they are gone now. Only get night sweats after a day where i got too much sun, like a long drive to vacation or something. I think sweats and low grade fevers can come with a flare. Good luck.

With higher doses i did take it really early in the am. I might take it when i woke at 5- 6am and go back to bed for a few hours, then it did not bother me as much. Hang in there, i know it is hard to get used to... Shawna

I only did 24 days of prednisone but I immediately started having hot flashes through the night. (I don't sweat). I have been off it 5 days but I am still having flashes almost every hour, mostly through the night. Even if I take benadryl, I still wake up with the flash.

Some time ago I read something that said PM somehow compromises the body's ability to regulate temperature. I refer to it as my body's thermostat being broken. Here is an old thread about that, which might help you to see that many of us deal with either hot flashes or cold spells.

I had lots of night sweats from this disease and worse on the prednisone, I have been off it for 5 weeks and I have not noticed any hot flashes. I think it's both the disease and the medicine, and not to mention perimenopause. Nanny, I read that old post on heat, very interesting. I have always had temp regulation problems, don't sweat properly, overheat and get really cold when everyone else feels fine! It's nice to know we are not alone.

I had the sweats when I first got on Prednisone, but after the dosage was lowered they stopped. I felt like I sweated most from my head and told my doctor that i felt like my brain was causing the sweating. I would have to change my sheets and pillowcases 2 to 3 times each night. Even the top of my covers would be wet.

I sweat at night and I just turn on the air conditioner. I will get too cold and turn it off. I wake up about five times every night, but I have no trouble getting back to sleep because I am tierd all the time. I do not care if it is the prednisone or the disease, but I now have my routine down. I change the sheets in the morning. I have also hit menopause so I must consider that as a possibility for the sweat. I have just learned to deal with it cause I know it is going to happen.

I am going through menopause at 35 since I've had a full Hysto, so I'm not new to hot flashes, but I've never sweat like that!

Brenda, that's what it's like except my head doesn't really do it, just everything else. So annoying to change all that stuff in the middle of the night huh?

I went through a phase of this earlier on, had to change my cloths 2-3 times a night, it stopped after a week.

i agree w/shawnan that i'm not on prednisone but have this issue with dm when i'm overly exhausted. it only happens at night for me and i'll get hot flashes and cold chills and will generally run a low grade temp.

Maybe I'm nitpicking on Prednisone! Maybe the sweats happened because of the PM/DM (won't know for sure which one until I talk to the doc on the 12th).

That happened to me alot when I was first on Prednisone. It doesnt happen as often now. I have been on Prednisone for 9 months now, I started on 60mg and am now down to 15mg.

I have had DM since 2007 and I've had night sweats since then, on and off the prednisone. They seem to happen randomly and come and go. I think it might be part of the DM secondary problems. I have talked to my Dr. and they don't seem to worry and they tell me there's nothing really I can do.
