2nd hand smoke and methotrexate....a doozy!

My daughter starts her mtx tonight. She is planning to go with my parents to a casino on Thursday. She has suddenly started worrying about the effect of second-hand smoke on her soon-to-be suppressed immune system. While I realize, and have told her repeatedly, that second-hand smoke is no good for anybody, she now is suddenly increasingly afraid to go to the casino anymore specifically because she thinks she may be more susceptible to infections because of second-hand smoke. I don't go myself because I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, and don't want to increase my own cancer risk, and I don't think it very wise for my COPD dad or asthmatic mother to be there either, but it's their choice, and my daughter's choice as well. Have you ever read information about the impact of 2nd hand smoke on methotrexate treatment? While I think it would be good for her to go and have fun, now there is this additional worry. If it's not one worry, it's another! Good grief!
Thanks!
Teresa

You know, she hasn't even really started it. It takes a little while for it to really start having any effect. While I don't recommend second hand smoke for anyone...she shouldn't give up doing things that she enjoys. As long as she's not exposed for long periods of time. Her main concern should be being around germs and drinking alcohol...don't do it!!!

Yeah, that makes sense, Wrknprogress. Gastro side effects last night, and fatigue and more shoulder heaviness today, but so far, so good. I think it will do her good to have fun and get her mind of feeling yucky. She doesn't drink, so there's nothing she'll be missing there. Thanks for your thoughts.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
