Working with a fertility specialist is your best bet. My husband and I tried to conceive for over 2 years before we finally worked our way up to a fertility specialist and then we finally started to see results.I think insurance companies don't want to spend the big bucks to send all couples struggling with fertility directly to a fertility specialist.
After a year of trying, I had a doctor who was honest enough to tell me that if a medication didn't work within 3-4 mths, then we should move on. Once we did that, the process seemed to move a little faster. When metformin, clomid and my attempts to lose weight failed, we were advised to have testing to rule out other problems such as low sperm count or blockage in the fallopian tubes. After those tests showed that we were both okay, we were finally referred to a fertility specialist. If I had know then what I know now, we could have moved through the process so much more quickly.
Basically what I'm saying is that all doctors don't have the answers and you will be in much better hands with a fertility specialist. I wish you all the best:)
