Some time ago I was referred to a gynecologist who put me on Metformin. After a year of taking it, I still was not seeing any results whatsoever! So we came up with a plan for me to continue the Met. for another 6 months then she would put me on Clomid. Well, in the meantime, she ended up moving her practice and I was referred to another gyne. I had an appt. with her a couple weeks ago and she basically told me that taking Clomid wasn't really an option at this point because I still don't have a regular cycle, taking Progesterone to bring one on doesn't count because its forced so she wouldn't know when to have me take the Clomid. I've been thinking about this since, and I'm pretty sure I've read several posts from women who were irregular but still took Clomid. I'm wondering if I shouldn't push the issue and at least give it a try with the Progesterone? I mean, even if I don't get pregnant the first time, wouldn't the Clomid trigger ovulation and then bring about another natural cycle? What do you ladies think? Anyone with experience in taking the Clomid without a regular cycle? Was it worth the cost and side effects or would you have preferred going about it differently?

I have pcos too & I never had a natural period...I was on metformin for a few months & I had nausea & my stomach was tore up....& since I wasn't ovulating with the met she referred me to an Reproductgive specialist...he gave me a shot of progestrone so i can start my peiod & also perscribed me clomid...(Let me mention Im overweight too)...last saturday i finished my first round...I experience a lil dizziness the first day but fatigue the rest of the five days (but managable)..here it is a week later & I think I might be ovulating because Im cramping a lil bit..I go back this friday and to see if Im ovulating...etc....& all this began on my first visit to the specialist...I think you should get a 2nd opinion, girlfriend....2nd..PRAY because MAN can't tell you nothin...GOD is in CONTROL of everything...Science goes so far then GOD comes in...So jus PRAY, PRAISE & WALK BY FAITH...

Get a second opinion! Even if you can't find someone near you who is knowledgeable about PCOS, you need to find someone who is willing to listen to you.

I was on progesterone to bring on my period and clomid to make me ovulate...now though because the clomid is working, my period comes on it's own, so I don't need the progesterone anymore....I hope that makes sense. I agree that you should get a second opinion.

Thanks! See, I knew I wasn't imagining hearing that women were taking the progesterone to start the cycle then clomid to ovulate! I have an appt. with a Naturopath tomorrow morning so I'm going to give the more natural approach a shot for a few months. After that, if I'm still not regular or pregnant, I think I'll get another referral for someone who is better qualified to help me than what my current gyne. seems to be!

I was diagnosed with PCOS in January 2009. In May of 2009, I was prescribed Prometrium, started a period and then on day 3 started the Clomid. The first time I tried Clomid, I got pregnant. Before the prometrium I never had a regular cycle after going of the BCP in May of 2008. I would push to give the Prometrium and Clomid combo a try. If this doc won't switch to one who will.
