My dr started me at 7.5mg a day (CD 3-7) and that worked. I was a late responder, my 1st cycle was cancelled on Day 18 due to "disappearing" follicle. I'm not sure there was a follicle there to begin with b/c I am a hard ultrasound. I kept using my fertility monitor up thru cycle day 28 (I was supposed to start Provera that day). I ended up peaking and surging by the 28th day according to my monitor. RE confirmed via blood test a week later, but I didn't get pregnant. The next cycle I surged earlier (around day 22) and we got pregnant. Unfortunately, I m/c. This was in October 2009 and I have yet to get pregnant since. We have used Femara alone 1 more cycle. The other 4 cycles were straight injectibles or Femara with Injectibles. I was a poor responder to straight injectibles, butFemara with injectibles wasn't too bad.

What dose are you on? Is your dr assuming your ovulating on CD14 and ordering blood on CD21? Are you having ultrasounds to monitor follicle growth?

My doctor has me on 5mg I guess that's 2 Femara pills a day on cycle days 3-7, because I guess 2.5mg itself is 1 pill a day for 5 days. Is 7.5mg a day mean you're taking 3 pills a day on cycle days 3-7? I had to change to a different gynecologist because the other doctor wasn't quite doing what she should have been doing. The other doctor had me on clomid for awhile & I was ovulating on that but didn't get pregnant, so she switched me to Femara & I was put on 5mg with her. But I think she assumed I was ovulating because my periods were coming every month, she should have been smart enough to do blood work on me to check my progesterone levels. So who knows if I was ovulating or not when the other doctor switched me to Femara. This doctor seems to be more caring & more on the ball about doing whatever she can to get me ovulating again. If this dose doesn't work she'll probably put me on 7.5mg, I'm not sure how high the Femara doses can go so I hope & pray that it won't take too much to get me ovulating again. I'm only seeing a gynecologist right now, unfortunately we don't have the money to go see another fertility specialist right now yet. We did see one in Feb. & March of 2010 & did an IUI but it failed, I was on clomid then & that's how I knew that I was ovulating because the ultrasounds showed I was. I really wish that the ultrasounds at the gynecology office were set up to also do follicle ultrasounds on women, not just ultrasounds for pregnant women. Because then I would just try to go there for the ultrasound, but insurance just has to make it so hard to be able to do that at a fertility specialist. So no because I'm only seeing my gynecologist unfortunately I'm not able to monitor my follicle growth, I just have to hope & pray that what she's doing now will work & one of these blood tests will show that my numbers are going up to 10 & above. I did my last blood test on well it was suppose to be on cycle day 21, but that day fell on Christmas day so I had to do the blood work on day 20. But yes she is having me check my progesterone levels on CD21 so it's possible that she thinks I'm ovulating on CD14. I also use a fertility monitor it's the clearblue easy fertility monitor, I was told by another doctor that women like us that have PCOS those monitor's will probably not show accurate results. But I don't quite understand that because the monitor detects the hormones in the urine, but I guess the situation is how it is. My doctor told me to use the monitor anyway even though she knows I have PCOS, so I'm just doing what she suggested I should do.

Yes, I take 3 pills a day. I have heard of women taking up to 10mg per day of Femara. I use the CBEFM too. Like I said the monitor saved my 1st cycle on Femara. Had I not been using it we would have never caught the fact that I o'd late. I just started Femara today. We are taking a step back because I have lost 22lbs and the RE feels that will improve my chances. We have put aside $$ for IVF, but we wanted to do something while waiting for summer to come. I will tell you, my insurance covered all my baseline stuff with RE, bloodwork and my DH's SA. We pay out of pocket for IUIs. Femara cycle runs us $550, that includes all ultrasounds, semen analysis, and IUI. Combo Femara and injectibles runs us $850 and straight injectibles is $1,700. My RE even suggested us doing Timed Intercourse this cycle, but I would have paid more than $550 for the ultrasounds and all so we decided the IUI option was cheaper and it helps get the swimmers a little closer. If Femara isn't working, why don't you ask about going back to Clomid?
