PCOS questions about signs of it....
SweetPea19
...OK so I have some signs of PCOS but not all of them. I have a question though...my doctor just from intial blood work and me having a hard time conceiving a baby thinks I have PCOS...no ultrasound has been done yet!
But I just went in for my annual pap smear (which I NEVER miss) wouldn't they be able to feel cysts when they put their fingers up there and press down on your tummy?
Also, what were your signs of PCOS?

From what I understand, the cysts are like tiny strands of pearls so they would probably not notice them during a pap. The only sign I had for PCOS was irregular periods. I never had a weight problem or hair growth.

From what I've read, not everyone who has PCOS has cysts. Some of us have follicles. I had other symptoms. Everyone's case is different.

Each person may have different symptoms; some have few others may have several. Each case is different. Along with the irregular periods, difficulty in getting pregnant, and excessive hair growth, there may also be high blood pressure, diabettes or other blood sugar issues, weight gain esp in tummy area, difficulty in losing weight, skin tags, discoloration of skin (darkening areas), acne, fatigue, and depression. Some of these are also signs of other issues but these are common to pcos patients. For me, I had many of the above but the doc didn't dx until I asked about it b/c of an article. I had never heard of pcos before. I'm glad I know but I still don't like it.

Thanks girls...I guess I just need to have my doctor do more tests to determine for sure what is going on!

You don't have to have all the symptoms as there are many and they are varied.

My doctor also just diagnosed me with POS based only on a blood test..I have no other symptoms except a few missed periods. I personally am going to get a second opinion just for piece of mind.

I have PCOS and I have had a regular pap smearsince i was 18, but I was diagnosed until I was 24. The symptoms range depending on the person, and may not even progress until you are older. If you start taking care of it( although no cure) you can avoid a lot of trouble like I had to endure.
