I have read two posts on here just recently from women who have gotten blood clots from being on BC. I was JUST put on a low level hormone BC yesterday (havent taken the first pill yet) and now I'm afraid to take it. I was just wondering how many of you have had the same experience, or have had no problems after being put on birth control. Is it true that we are more prone to blood clotting because we have PCOS? Please fill me in on your experiences because I dont want to take w/o being informed first. I was put on it to regulate my period, and to help with other symptoms.

No we are not prone to blood clotting but some of us, like me, also have blood clotting issues on top of the PCOS and if you have blood clotting disorders you shouldn't be taking any hormone related pills. My RE found that I had this disorder when he ran fertlity tests on me.

I was on BC for 15 years or so and had no problems with it. But with everything I have been through in recent years, I don't think I would go back on BC unless it was absolutely necessary. I've been using Vitex to try and regulate my cycles, and while it takes time to be effective, I'm noticing positive results. There are other natural supplements that can help, so you could try something like that if you're worried about the BC.

Thanks Ladies. I was just worried about some of the things I've read.

Hi I so not have blood clot issues and I was diagnosed with blood clots just because if the BCP maybe b4 taking ask ir doctor to take bloodwork to c if u are prone to clotting I was told women with PCOS has too much testerone and the BCP really disrupt our hormone balance even more and it's a higher chance of our blood clotting. Read articles on the risk and also view the DVT forum for additional information here on Daily Strength

Thank you for the additional info. My testosterone levels were normal, along with every other hormone level, sugar, cholesterol, Blood pressure, Thyroid.. everything. I just have the cysts and missed periods, weight gain and very little facial hair. So I am guessing I will be okay. I havent ever been tested for a blood clotting disorder, but with normal Testosterone levels, I should be fine right?

It's hard to say my were all in normal range as well until I took the BCP if u don't have the blood clot disorder then they won't know until u take the BCP if ur blood start clotting not to scare u but if u feel different or if something is not right c ur doctor ASAP especially chest pain shortness of breath and leg cramps or leg pain it may feel like a pulled muscle don't ignore any symptoms

I did have blood clots while i was on birth control but the doctors determined mine was from an infection, But I will NEVER be on BC again just because it does increase the risk of blood clots. I also had to start taking blood thinner injections when i finally got pregnant do decrease the possibility of getting another blood clot because when you are pregnant you are even more prone to blood clots.s
