Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. I just started metformin a few moths ago. I did have gi issues for about 2 weeks which is pretty common. I was also trying to lose weight so I was watching carbs bad idea my blood sugar dropped one day at work I was lucky enought to know what to watch for and be able to check it at work and had food avalible. All in all not to bad and i'n still taking it. It helps with the pcos as well as blood glucose and weight management. Best of luck.
I am, however, monitoring my blood sugar every 3-4 hours via a glucose meter. I, also, am prediabetic and have hypoglycemia and hypothyroidism. (All of this I only learned two weeks ago! Wowza!) Because I am monitoring myself so closely, I've been able to avoid some of the serious sugar lows that I hear can come along with Metformin. I'm not sure what your doc wants for you in your treatment plan, but mine was adamant about keeping an eye on those levels. I find it really helpful. As far as I understand, you need to try to make sure to eat every 3-4 hours (which is good for you anyway) to keep your blood sugar stable. Good luck!
I take the Metforming x2 a day as well, 500mg. The only side effect I've really noticed is some minor (tmi) diarrhea.
With all the meds I'm on now, I feel like an old grandma. I hear ya, hahaha.
Typo fail. Sorry!
@Jen Thank you! I try to stay away from all that white flour and stuff now. It's so hard in a house full of unhealthy eaters but in trying my best! Hopefully this helps with my weight too!
My other concern is drinking. I like to have the occational could of beers or wine (although I'm really not supposed to, I can't help it!) Apparently you can't drink on Metformin because it lowers your blood sugar. I have a friend who skips her evening pill if she's planning on having a couple. Idk if I should take that chance. I've heard you can get really sick. I'm wondering if I should skip the morning pill as well. Really I should just quit drinking but I love to unwind sometimes. Lol thanks again ladies!!!
