Hello Everyone! I'm new here...I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 years ago. In high school I always got really bad ovarian cysts, that caused me so much pain. I ended up going to the ER several times, because they were so painful. Finally, my doctor put me on Orthotricyclen, which did help for a while. I did get a few cysts occasionally but not as often and they were not as bad. My doctor then decided to switch me to Yaz because it was supposed to help more. I had horrible side effects on it and it caused me to eat all the time and gain a lot of weight!! I told my doctor I didn't want to take birth control anymore after this experience. They did several ultrasounds throughout this whole time, and cysts were always present. Many times they were complex ones. I then saw a different doctor who diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed me Metformin 500 mg to take 3 times a day. I've been taking Metformin for 3 years now and have not had any cysts since I started taking Metformin! In the meantime I have lost almost 50 pounds. Which was NOT an easy task!! However, lately I did get one. I went to the ER last week, because I thought I had appendicitis or kidney stones and when they did the CT scan, they said they saw a cyst. The pain is so bad and sometimes I feel like I have a knife in my side! Could this just be a fluke? Or is it possible that the metformin isn't working anymore? I haven't seen the GYN in about 2 years now, because the metformin was working....I'm nervous to go back, because I'm afraid they will prescribe me Birth control again or take me off of Metformin, and I will gain all that weight back! Don't know what to do...
