Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. I've been taking 100mg spironolactone daily for 15 years and I've never had an issue with headaches (I always joke that I GIVE headaches, I don't GET them :)
I'm having kidney issues and the doctor suspects it's the spironolactone (he's setting up an appointment for me to see a kidney specialist). I tried going cold turkey but my acne comes back with a vengeance, but three tablets a week is the minimum I can take and still get the acne benefit.
Would you be willing to cut back how much you're taking? I wish I had more answers for you, but since I don't, I'm hoping this helps.
Hope you feel better soon.
The main effect I noticed was with my acne. I used to have pimples on top of pimples in the WEIRDEST places, and it was like they vanished overnight. The beard growth took much longer to decrease, but it never went away completely. My endo told me last month it will probably never completely go...which I sort of already knew, looking at my mother and grandmother, but still, it was tough to hear.
As for weight loss, no, the spironolactone didn't help. Neither did the metformin. Nor the green tea. Nor the exercise. Nor the diet. That's my main issue at the moment: NOTHING is helping. I do weights and cardio, the only carbs I eat are whatever is in veggies and apples, I drink plenty of water, but the weight won't come off. My family doctor is stumped, as are my gynecologist and endocrinologist. I have another appointment with yet another specialist next month, hopefully she has answers for me
haha, sorry, didn't mean to go off on a tangent there. It's a sore spot. A big sore spot. A big fat sore spot. A big fat sore spot I can't get rid of no matter what...
oops, there I go again :)
