I have been lobbying my gyno for hormonal testing for almost two years and have been largely dismissed. I am in my third year of cystic acne that has devastated me socially and deeply aggravated the anxiety and depression I was diagnosed with at 19 (I am now 31). I also have suffered from migraines since age 17. My moods have recently become much more volatile; my anxiety continues to worsen even as I spend more and more money on private therapy, and in the past year (2016), I've only gotten my period ONCE, despite being on Loestrin for the past decade or so and being on some form of birth control nonstop since age 17 (15 years - I don't even know how this will effect my fertility - I'm unmarried without kids so far but hope for both things). I was recently prescribed Spirinolactone to help with my suspected hormone imbalance-induced cystic acne (which won't respond to THOUSANDS of dollars in facials and skincare) but I think without a higher dose estrogen birth control pill it won't work so I will look into that as well. I feel I have to fight and prove my case to convince doctors to test me for this and considering what I've read here, that's just outrageous. If I find out that the suffering I've endured since adolescence could possibly have been prevented, I will of course be relieved to have an answer in terms of all of these issues being tied together but I will also be FURIOUS with my long-term doctors and gynocologist in particular. I will spend the rest of my life advocating for more awareness towards PCOS and its many complications and since my chosen profession happens to be politics, hopefully I can do some good. Will be seeking a support group soon and will update this feed if anyone is interested in my results when they come post-testing.  And I'd appreciate anyone's tips if possible! Also - I want to note that as I describe above - I have almost all of the symptoms of PCOS and although I'm still being tested and don't have a confirmed diagnosis, the issues I've been dealing with for quite some time all seem connected and now seem to make some sense, even though this realization is VERY disturbing.  To think some of these things and the destruction thereby caused in my 20's especially could have been prevented makes me...crazy!  Crazy angry. Could it be that insurance/drug companies don't encourage diagnosis because it's costly to treat? Perhaps that's why no one seems to suggest this testing when assessing a patient and like me, many have had to literally ARGUE and FIGHT for the testing to even be ordered. Outrageous and I can't even begin to voice my frustration at the implications of what a confirmed diagnosis would mean for me. I also had an appendectomy 3 summers ago which they had trouble diagnosing until it partially burst...could it be an inflamed ovary aggravated the appendix?!  Even since it's been gone, I've had occasional pain in that lower abdominal area. Last thing I want to note about symptoms - I have basically always been the same leanish weight and have always been athletic so I'm not sure what this means! I have ALWAYS found working out - cardio, weight training AND yoga - has helped my issues tremendously, particularly anxiety/depression, skin problems, and period regularity. I first got my period at age 11 however and it has been fairly regular until the past two years - which coincides with the onset of cystic acne and other hormonal changes.  I'm sorry for the long comment but I've been seeking answers for a LONG time and as I've gotten older I've experienced different and multiplying symptoms/issues and PCOS seems to explain nearly all of these problems and why in my late 20's-early 30's they began to intensify. I'm desperate for answers and HELP.
