Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. Many tests later I was told I have PCOS. I have many of the symptoms & have now started gaining weight fairly quickly. It's a very frustrating condition, that I am still learning about
PCO'S is frustrating all around. As for weight gain metformin helps and it helps with the insulin resistance, which can become full type 2 diabetes. I was not diagnosed quickly enough and now have full type 2. Exercise and yoga help but not as much as I would like. I have found that the side effects of metformin increase the intestinal issues associated with pcos so there is a trade off in that regard.
I would recommend getting an ultrasound done because pcos includes the inside of the ovaries which can lead to a misdiagnosis or none at all. They didn't see mine until they looked inside them and by then they had gotten large and scary looking.
I also want to mention what can occur if one busts/ruptures. They can simply cause pain, fever, and mild things but can also be dangerous if the ovaries rupture. The birth control will help shrink the cists which decreases the chances of this.
I have been diagnosed with pcos for 7 years and have probably had it much longer. This is likely why I developed fibroid on my uterus and cervix. Today I have reached a comfortable weight and am working on the diabetes part which is still not controlled well and attempting to push through other symptoms. I know it's hard but try to remain positive because even there is no cure there are things that can help. I really hope you get answers and the correct treatment soon. I would not wish the issues I have had with it on anyone. If you have more questions that I can answer I will gladly answer. I think there should be more info available.
