Polycythemia is a condition in which there is a net increase in the total circulating erythrocyte (red blood cell) mass of the body. Primary polycythemia occurs when excess erythrocytes are produced as a result of a proliferative abnormality of the bone marrow. Secondary polycythemia is caused by increases of erythropoietin that result in an increased production of...
Anyway, I prefer weight watchers over the low carb diet because EVERYTHING has carbs, and in WW no foods are off limits... you just have to be accountable for what you do eat, it's a lifestyle change, I think cutting out any one food category is not realistic, ya know? Who can stick to that forever?
I'm a carb fiend too. Still managed to lose 40lbs (and still losing..15 more to go!) so don't lose hope...^^
Truth of the matter is, choose your carbs wisely. So yes, you want a bagel for breakfast? Have a salad for lunch, sans croutons. Have a handful of pretzels with grapes (one of my favorite snacks) or go for whole wheat, high fiber breads instead of white bread. I'm also an avid baker and I wasn't about to give that up, so instead, I bake a bit for me and give the rest to others. Much easier than having a loaf of banana bread staring you down the rest of the week.
Also, you can trick yourself. For instance, if you have pinterest, use it! I learned about spaghetti squash, PB2 protein bites, and other carb alternatives which definitely helped me.My fitness pal worked for me but I got neurotic about it so I took a break lol.
Other simple things I do is drink cool water before every meal. I also love tea and drink a mix of 3tsp apple cider vinegar, 2tsp honey, 8oz of water and a few sprinkles of cinnamon three times a day. Apple cider vinegar and cinnamon are a PCOS girl's best friend. The apple cider vinegar helps with skin and weight loss while the cinnamon helps to break down insulin. You can add cinnamon to just about anything but with the apple cider vinegar, do not over use that. Stick with the 3tsp, 3 times a day and dilute it with water.
Anyways, that's my input, hope it helped!
I have PCOS and was never overweight but I tried to cure my acne by changing my diet. One of the things which caused me to lose wight rapidly was simply to cut out bread and pasta and soda and store bought juice. Of course I cut out sugary treats too, and only rank water. Of course this was being too strict but I did lose weight!
I quickly realized, it did nothing for acne but I lost 10-12 lbs in 2 months.
You probably shouldnt try to cut out carbs, just reduce them and make sure the ones you eat are good ones, eat whole grain bread/pasta, brown rice, sweet potatos are better than white.Dont drink your calories ei juice and energy drinks. Anything fast food or pre-packaged is a no-no, drink green tea or a bit of juice in mostly sparkling water. Milk or soymilk is Ok in small amounts.
I also started making my own juice, the key is use mostly vegetables and minimal fruit. My favorite juice recipe is 1 carrot, 1 celery, 1 beet, half a cucumber and some parsley. If you add some grapes or half an apple or a piece of melor or pineapple if you like it sweeter tasting, but most of it should be vegetables.
An example of what I eat now is, either yougurt smoothie or slow-cooking oatmeal in the morning, some type of soup or salad or wrap filled with say, turkey and avocado or fish or hummus, for lunch and most nights, mostly vegetables with chicken or fish occasionally meat, brown rice, other grains like quinoa or barley. I only eat pasta maybe twice per month.
If you use a lot of spices/flavors its more fun. I eat nuts and baked apples for snacks, sometimes rice chips with salsa or hummus if you like it. I occasionally eat eggs but I dont like them a lot.
I eat healthy weekdays and allow desserts/fancy coffee/ice cream on weekends or holidays, you cant deprive yourself.
ps the only thing which cleared my acne was yaz.
hope this helps!
For a baked potato I sub mashed cauliflower, seasoned right you can't even tell the difference. There's lots of ways to get the same feeling out of food that's not super starch. :)
I find eating soup is a great way to cut calories in general and add hydration and nutrients.
Most sandwiches I'll do a lettuce wrap. It takes a bit to master wrapping the lettuce so you don't break it, but once you do, oh my goodness, it's a godsend!
Tortilla chips - bell pepper sliced up, baked at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes then use for my dip or nachos or whatever.
Chips/fries: I'll make up carrot chips/fried, zucchini chips/fries, squash chips/fries. Just slice up however you want and bake.
There's tons of ways to still get the feeling of eating lots of sinful foods without the calories or the side effects :)
